Safe hinge switch

PSENhinge

Guard monitoring built into the hinge itself. Because the switch sits at the pivot and is concealed within the guard, there is no exposed actuator on the leading edge to align, damage or defeat — while the switching point remains adjustable anywhere from 0° to 270°.

Why it is specified

Effect of the hinge-mounted approach

The advantages come directly from where the switch sits, not from generic product claims.

Concealed installation

Mounted within the guard, so there is no visible switch or actuator inviting manipulation.

Adjustable switching point

Set anywhere from 0° to 270° and re-adjustable, so the trip angle suits the guard rather than the reverse.

Hinge and switch in one

Supplied as a complete solution, removing the separate alignment of a switch and actuator pair.

IP67 for washdown

Rated for heavy soiling and hygiene-critical areas where exposed switches struggle.

Applications

PSENhinge is used

The manufacturer lists packaging technology, the pharmaceutical industry and the food industry among its typical industry uses.

01

Hinged guard doors

Rotatable and hinged gates where the monitoring point is better placed at the pivot than on the closing edge.

02

Lift-up flaps and covers

Flaps and covers that open through a wide arc, where a conventional actuator would disengage early or bind.

03

Washdown environments

Food and pharmaceutical machinery cleaned regularly, where IP67 and a concealed installation both matter.

04

Guards prone to tampering

Access points where an exposed switch has previously been bypassed with a spare actuator.

Technical data

Selection parameters that matter

The values below are the ones that decide whether PSENhinge suits a given guard. Complete specifications, approvals and dimensions belong to the selected order number in current manufacturer documentation.

Note the performance level condition: PL e of EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL CL 3 of EN/IEC 62061 apply when two switches are used.
FunctionMonitoring the position of movable guards in accordance with EN 60947-5-3
Performance levelUp to PL e of EN ISO 13849-1 if two switches are used
Safety integrity levelUp to SIL CL 3 of EN/IEC 62061 if two switches are used
Switching pointFreely settable from 0° to 270°, and re-adjustable

Protection typeIP67
HousingPlastic-bodied design
MountingSystems can be attached on the right and on the left
Controller pairingCan be used with controllers for applications with high safety requirements
Guard typesRotatable and hinged gates, and flaps
A single switch does not by itself establish PL e. The achievable performance level follows from the complete safety function, including the evaluation, the output stage and the machine response.
Models

Handing and installation variants

The range allows the hinge switch to be fitted to either side of the guard. Confirm the exact order number against current manufacturer data for the guard in question.

Right and left

Systems can be attached to the right and left, so the guard swing direction does not dictate a different product family.

Accessories

Connection technology and pairing

The manufacturer lists the required cable, connector and adapter accessories under connection technology for this family.

Connection

Cables and connectors

Cable, connector and adapter accessories are selected with the switch, based on the run length and the connection method at the controller.

ConfirmCable length, connector type and routing.
Evaluation

safety controllers

The switch provides the guard signal; a safety relay or configurable controller performs the safe evaluation and drives the output stage.

Typical pairingPNOZ relay or PNOZmulti 2.
Series wiring

Multiple guards

Where several guards are wired in series, the effect on fault detection and on the achievable performance level must be assessed for the arrangement.

ConfirmNumber of guards and the evaluation route.

Application review

PSENhinge is a mechanical fit as much as an electrical one. These points determine whether it suits the guard and which variant is required.

Guard and mounting

  • Hinged, rotatable or flap-type guard, and its weight
  • Swing direction and whether right or left handing is needed
  • Available hinge positions and existing hinge arrangement
  • Required trip angle within the 0°–270° range

Safety function

  • The hazard the guard protects, and the machine run-down time
  • Whether guard locking is required rather than monitoring alone
  • Target performance level, and whether two switches are intended
  • Existing safety relay or controller and spare safe inputs

Environment

  • Washdown, cleaning chemicals and hygiene requirements
  • Soiling, temperature and vibration at the hinge
  • Whether IP67 is sufficient for the cleaning regime
  • Any food-contact or pharmaceutical constraints

Commercial

  • Quantity per machine and total quantity
  • Cable length and connection method
  • Whether this replaces an existing switch, and its part number
  • Required delivery timeline

PSENhinge sits in the architecture

The hinge switch reports guard position. If the hazard continues after the stop command, position monitoring alone is not sufficient and a locking device is required instead.
