Contour presence & matching
Teach expected contours and evaluate whether the required shape is present.
- Error-proofing
- Orientation / position
Inspect contours, surfaces, presence, position and component features directly at the machine. O2D5 combines industrial 2D image processing with guided Vision Assistant setup for error-proofing and inspection tasks that need more information than a conventional photoelectric sensor can provide.

O2D5 is useful when the question is not only “is an object present?” but “is the right geometry, contour, position or surface condition present?”
Teach expected contours and evaluate whether the required shape is present.
Evaluate connected image regions for presence, count or surface-feature inspection.
Use logic blocks in Vision Assistant to combine inspection results before passing information onward.
Select RGB-W or infrared illumination and lens angle according to material, contrast and working distance.
Use 2D vision for repeatable, image-based inspection when the relevant feature is visible in the camera image and can be distinguished with suitable lighting and resolution.
Confirm that required components, clips, holes or features are present before the next operation.
Detect contour deviations, filled/open features or defined image regions during production.
Determine whether a part or feature is located within an acceptable position window.
The O2D5 uses image-based tools rather than a single light spot. Successful applications depend on field of view, pixel resolution, working distance, target contrast, illumination and motion.
Current O2D5 variants combine three lens angles with RGB-W or infrared illumination and different process-interface options. Use IFM’s field-of-view calculator for final selection.
| Example family | Illumination | Lens | Representative article | Selection note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| O2D50x | RGB-W + polarisation | 16° / 30° / 10° | O2D500 / 502 / 504 | TCP/IP family; select lens by field of view. |
| O2D52x | Infrared | 16° / 30° / 10° | O2D520 / 522 / 524 | IR route for suitable surfaces / contrast conditions. |
| O2D51x / 53x | RGB-W or IR | 16° / 30° / 10° | O2D510…534 | Alternative process-interface family; confirm PLC/network requirement. |
Do not use O2D5 merely because “a camera is needed”. Match the device to whether the job is 2D inspection, code/text identification or actual 3D geometry.
| Requirement | IFM route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Contour / surface / presence inspection | O2D5 | Dedicated 2D object recognition and inspection. |
| Code + OCR + identification | O2I / O2U | Identification tools are the primary requirement. |
| Combined inspection + codes via IO-Link | O2U | Newer universal sensor combines O2D/O2I-type functions. |
| Depth, volume, height or 3D geometry | O3D | Time-of-flight depth data, not a 2D image alone. |
A sample image or physical part is useful, but the geometry and inspection tolerance must be defined first.
