Aerosol, Filtration & Airflow Testing Guide

Filter and airflow testing is defined by the standard being satisfied. The standard fixes the challenge aerosol, the flow rate and where the measurements are taken.

Selection Requirements to Establish

Work through what you can. Anything still undecided is exactly what a conversation with our engineers is for.

01The test and the standard

  • Test being performed: filter integrity, efficiency, leak scan, airflow verification
  • Standard or guideline that defines the method
  • Whether the test is in production, in a laboratory or on an installed system
  • Pass criteria the result is judged against

02Aerosol and challenge

  • Aerosol medium (DEHS, PAO, oil, salt) and particle size distribution
  • Challenge concentration required upstream
  • Generator output needed for the duct or hood volume
  • Neutralisation, dilution or conditioning in the aerosol path
  • Whether monodisperse or polydisperse aerosol is required

03Airflow and measurement

  • Volumetric flow rate, and duct, hood or housing dimensions
  • Face velocity and uniformity requirements
  • Upstream and downstream sampling arrangement
  • Photometer, particle counter, or both
  • Penetration or efficiency figures to be reported, and the record format
