Measurement Scope and Parameter Selection
Environmental measurement covers a wide span of parameters, and instruments differ sharply in what they actually measure. Being specific about the question first is what keeps a survey from producing data that cannot answer it.
No single instrument covers every environmental quantity. A multi-parameter IAQ monitor, a dust monitor, a particle counter, a sound meter and a vibration meter are different instruments answering different questions. The product page states the parameters that model actually measures — and that is the authority, not this overview.

Environmental Measurement Parameters
- Carbon dioxideCan be used as a ventilation and occupancy indicator when it is interpreted together with outdoor CO₂, occupancy, how the space is used and the applicable ventilation method. It is an indicator, not a direct measure of ventilation adequacy.
- Carbon monoxideCombustion-related indoor air contaminant, where the survey scope includes it.
- TemperatureThermal condition, and an input to derived psychrometric quantities.
- Relative humidityWith derived values such as dew point, wet-bulb temperature and absolute humidity where the instrument computes them.
